You cannot load an un-managed solution into the Ribbon Workbench if it has patches on it since it cannot be exported form Dynamics CRM. You also cannot load unmanaged solution patches. Instead you should create a small solution and add just the entities that you wish to customise to it and load that iinto the Ribbon Workbench. Any changes you make will be exported in other unmanaged solutions.
